Welcome and introductions

Trevor Struthers explains the Purpose of this meeting, which is to find a chair and vice chair for the ward panel, explain the role of ward panel members and to meet each other

Panel Member asks how frequently will the meetings be held?

Trevor Struthers replies that we will have one next month, but after that, they will be held 3 monthly.

Trevor Struthers talks about priorities. At the moment as the panel has not yet been set up, and thus no priorities have been set by them. The SNT have constructed their own priorities; these have been set using the information garnered from the questionnaires they sent out to every household in the ward. At the moment they are drink related, anti social behaviour in Streatham Green, cycling on the footpath, and robberies on the high road. These are the priorities the SNT will work to until the ward panel set their own priorities.

Frances Strachan proposes Lee Alley to be chair of the ward panel.

Ward panel vote Lee Alley in as Chair.

Alan Davidson puts himself forward to be vice chair.

Ward panel vote Alan Davidson in as Vice Chair.

Trevor Struthers gives an explanation of how the ward panel works

Trevor Struthers talks about the environmental survey, explanation of what it is and how it is going to be recorded by before and after photos of the area.

Ruth Edwards queries as to why The St Leonards safer neighbourhoods e-mail is not working.

Gary Lehain explains that it is because of an error on the information sheet with the e-mail on, a full stop left out of the e-mail, and so the e-mail written on the information sheet was stleonardssnt@met.police.uk. The correct e-mail address is in fact stleonards.snt@met.police.uk. All future correspondence will contain the correct e-mail address and it would be good if the ward panel helped spread the right e-mail address.

Lee Alley gives details of how he has registered www.stleonardsward.org.uk for the use of the ward panel. Asks what the panel want on the website.

General Ideas discussed on what the panel want on the website. A ward panel member asks if the website will be public or only accessible to the ward panel.

Lee Alley replies that the website will be public but restricted sections can be created that are only available to the ward panel.

Ward panel discuss the website, and how it is going to be publicised. Ideas include the ward panel members distributing it in their areas, and passing it on at resident association meetings.

Panel member asks whether the local councillors are going to be involved in this, and if they have been invited to the meeting

Trevor Struthers replies that the local councillors are kept informed with what is going on, but it is not advisable to have them on the panel as they have their own agendas. However, it is up to the panel if they allow local councillors to attend the ward panel meetings.

Katrina Denisow talks about something of interest she has seen while walking in Tooting. Placards with the local Safer Neighbourhoods team information were seen on lampposts, would like to propose that as something that could be done in St Leonards.

As all business has been discussed, Trevor Struthers declares that the next meeting will take place on the 18th of July at 7pm where the ward panel will decide the priorities for the ward. Provisional location is Hopton House.

Ruth Edwards suggests that the meeting could be held at the Prentis Road Synagogue if there is not being used on the 18th of July for classes.

Trevor Struthers elaborates on what will be discussed at the next meeting, it is the ward priorities, he informs the panel that crime figures will be brought along to the next meeting so that the ward panel can make an informed decision on what to set as the priorities.

Gary Lehain warns that the crime figures will not include information on low level crime such as cycling on the footpath, and anti social behaviour unless criminal, as this is not recorded on crime figures.

General discussion on whether the ward is fairly represented and what the ward panel could do to get under-represented groups onto the panel.

Abdi Ahmed talks about the problems the local residents have had with the Somali’s and how he is here on behalf of the Somali community to get dialogue going between the Somali’s and rest of the local community.

1955 hours meeting ends.
