A good news SNT story

On the same day as the rest of the SNT and the Streatham Task Force were raiding premises on the Streatham High Road, PCSO Mustafa Abdulhusein was flagged down by a distraught mother near the police station. She had been waiting at a Streatham bus stop for her two children to return but they didn't show up at the arranged time.

After an hour had passed she panicked and headed for the police Station. Mustafa took charge of the situation, dealt with the woman in a compassionate and methodical manner, ensuring that the missing persons protocol was adhered to. Descriptions were passed to the control room and he suggested notifying Lambeth CCTV, the bus routes and to circulate of descriptions to the surrounding Boroughs.

He and other members of the team chased up schools and enquiries revealed that a friend had last seen the two in Brixton and that the children thought this was where their mum was going to meet them. Brixton was checked by officers there without success.

Other SNT teams from Streatham arranged to come down and assist and a subsequent local search finally located two rather cold, frightened young children. The family was re-united and crossed wires were blamed for the misunderstanding. However this incident highlighted just how professionally Mustafa and the other PCSO's are in dealing with incidents that they may come across in the street. PC Gary leHaine says, "It typifies the professionalism these guys have mastered in such a short time."
