How to keep pavements clear

Sometimes people let trees and shrubberies from their gardens overgrow the pavements. If this goes on for too long the pavements can become partially blocked (see picture) such that it's difficult for pedestrians to pass each other forcing one to walk on the road or to have to wait.

There is a way to get this taken care of courtesy of the council

- ring Streetcare on 020 7926 9000 and tell them the location of the blocked pavement and Lambeth will send an Environment Monitoring Officer around to verify the and document the issue. The homeowner/landlord will then be issued a notice to trim back their garden and given a period of time in which to do this.

In the event the owner of the property doesn't comply with the notice, the council will do the job (not necessarily as carefully or in as pleasing a manner aesthetically) and issue a invoice to the owner. In the event this isn't paid it will accrue interest and be attached as a lien against the property to be recovered upon sale of the property.

This can also include builders rubble, furniture, bicycles/motorbikes parked on the pavement - anything, excepting council street-furniture, that impedes free movement of pedestrians on the pavements.

We will be creating an e-mail form on this site that can be used to e-mail Streetcare directly.
