Hi all and welcome to our first newsletter directly to you from our website! We've been working hard in the background to enable this and at last we are able to manage panel communications from the website itself. It's a good day today!
Tonight will be our Panel meeting and AGM. Please forward nominations to the chair up to the call for them at the AGM where all officers will stand for re-election.
The agenda is posted on the website here: http://www.stleonardsward.org.uk/event/2009/06/10/day and any other business will be called towards the start of the meeting. The current chair will run the meeting then hold the AGM at the end so as to not throw a new chair into the deep end all at once. Minutes from the last meeting can be read/printed out here: http://www.stleonardsward.org.uk/safer-neighbourhoods-meeting-minutes-01...
In recent developments, the council has published the draft Economic Development Plan for Streatham covering planned development over the next 15 years. You can read and comment on this at: http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/News/010609FinalOpportunityToCommentPlansForFu...
If you feel ambivalent about this, the planning officers, addressing the Streatham Forum, stated that they "look with eager anticipation for an application to build a 20 story development on top of Streatham Station." Do feel free to register your thoughts and feelings about this by clicking on the link above.
The chair can vouch personally for the fact that the Safer Neighbourhoods Team has already responded to information about ASB around the Streatham Common Station area by adjusting their patrols to cover this. We expect to see results on this soon.
Along the theme of Safer Neighbourhood Team news, the current officers have agreed that it would be a good idea to nominate team members for outstanding service commendations. We will write to Supt. Dave Musker with our nominations based upon your recommendations. We look for these nominations immediately so please tell us your good Safer Neighbourhood Team stories!
Locally, the No Cold Calling Zone has been set up in the South of the ward and is in operation. At least 2 large multinational energy and telecoms companies and a local church have been reported to Trading Standards to be warned that they are not to contravene the No Cold Calling Zone, and that they are covered by this whether or not they have been informed of the zones' existence. Trading Standards phone number is on the signs so feel free to report people going door-to-door without appointments. Note that there is a partial exception for meter readers.
There is much else happening in the Streatham area and the admin will be working with the new panel officers to keep you informed on a more regular basis. We hope to see you at the meetings, but otherwise we'll sign off until next time.
Help us make Streatham a nicer place to live!
